Scholarships
Incoming freshmen and current students in OU Student Media may apply for the scholarships described below.
High school seniors should use OU's freshman scholarship application at froshscholarshipapp.ou.edu. Current students should return the application below by April 15, 2009.
Media Leadership Award
$500 tuition waiver and $500 annual stipend
Student Media will honor up to four students annually for their leadership potential in Student Media and the profession. Students selected will be awarded a tuition waiver for the fall and spring semesters of their following year ($500 annually), plus a $500 stipend.
The stipend will be offered to students for participation in a leadership development program. With approval of their professional staff adviser/manager and the director of Student Media, students will choose a professional development activity. Students will receive a $500 stipend for participation in the leadership development activity. A student may choose to participate in a campus leadership series, attend a conference or other activity of benefit to their leadership development.
Awards are to be considered for one incoming freshman, one current freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Awards will be made for the following academic year.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Incoming freshmen applicants must have worked on a high school publication, such as a school newspaper or yearbook, and/or have interned with a commercial newspaper, magazine or other publication.
- All other applicants must have worked for OU Student Media for one semester before application (includes semester of application).
- Applicants must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA overall. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 12 hours and be in at least their second or third semester of coursework at the time of application.
Cecil H. Brite Scholarship, Louise B. Moore Scholarship and W.C. Vanderwerth Scholarship
$250 annually
These scholarships were created by the Publications Board to honor Cecil H. Brite, retired director of Student Publications (now Student Media); Louise B. Moore, retired editorial adviser to The Oklahoma Daily, and W.C. Vanderwerth, former superintendent of production and printing in the department. Each scholarship is awarded annually based on outstanding contributions to Student Media.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Applicants must have worked for Student Media for one semester before application and may not serve as editor or student advertising manager during the year of application.
- Applicants must be making satisfactory progress toward graduation. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA overall. Undergraduates must be enrolled in 12 hours during the semester of application, and graduate students must be enrolled in six hours.
