Gold Circles
The Gold Circle, given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, is the largest national competition for individual achievement in college, university and senior high school publications throughout the United States. The awards recognize the nation's best student journalists. For 2007-08, Student Media's two yearbooks, Sooner and Crimson Traditions, took home 27 Gold Circles, including six first-place awards. The Oklahoma Daily also won 13, including two firsts, and Sower magazine won two. Click here to see individual awards.
2008 SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards
Given by the Society of Professional Journalists, the awards honor the best in collegiate journalism. OU Student Media competes in Region 8, which includes Oklahoma and Texas. The Daily won third in the region's best "all-around daily student newspaper," and Daily staffers also took first in two individual categories. Click here to see the full awards list.

SPJ Oklahoma Pro Chapter Awards
Oklahoma's Society of Professional Journalists' awards pit the students of The Oklahoma Daily against the state’s professional journalists. The Daily was named the state’s best newspaper in Division B (circulation of 7,000-24,999), besting both OSU’s student paper and The Norman Transcript. Student staffers of The Daily won 21 individual awards, including nine first-place honors, and swept the In-Depth Enterprise Reporting/Individual category. See individual awards here.
Given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the award ranks the OU yearbooks among the top nine collegiate books nationwide. Gold and Silver Crown winners will be announced at the College Media Convention in March. The Sooner/CT package is the 10th OU yearbook in a row to garner Crown honors and the 11th since Sooner’s 1997 rebirth.
Pacemaker, Sooner 2007/Crimson Traditions 2006
Given by the Associated Collegiate Press, the Pacemaker is commonly referred to as “the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism.”
